Andrea Martinez cabrera, LCPC

Bilingual Psychotherapist

"Finding your authentic self begins with feeling seen and understood."

About me

As an immigrant from El Salvador who moved to the U.S. in my early teens, I personally experienced culture shock, migratory grief, and the challenges of acculturation. These experiences shaped how I show up as a bilingual, Spanish-speaking therapist. I honor the ways culture, community, and systemic inequalities impact each person’s story, and I am passionate about walking alongside immigrants, first-generation individuals, couples, and Latinx clients as they reconnect with their authentic selves.

My Approach to Therapy

I strive to create a warm, compassionate space where you feel safe to explore your journey. I primarily draw from psychodynamic and person-centered approaches, with a strong focus on attachment, relational-cultural, and object-relational theory. I also integrate mujerista, feminist, womanist, decolonizing, and multicultural perspectives, allowing therapy to be both clinically grounded and culturally responsive.

Therapeutic Techniques and Experience

Since 2020, I have provided bilingual therapy to children, teens, adults, and couples across diverse communities in Illinois and virtually. My experience includes supporting BIPOC, LGBTQ+, immigrants/international individuals, non-monogamous relationships, and Spanish-speaking families. I provide therapy in both Spanish and English, tailoring my approach to honor cultural identity and lived experience while empowering clients to heal.

Services Offered

I specialize in intergenerational trauma, acculturation issues, migratory grief and loss, racial and gender/sexual identity exploration, couples/relationship challenges, and family dynamics. I offer virtual bilingual therapy in Illinois, creating accessible and affirming support for individuals, couples, and families who prefer services in Spanish or English.

Lets Connect

If you’re looking for a bilingual therapist who understands the complexities of immigration, cultural identity, and first-generation experiences, and who can support both individuals and couples, I invite you to schedule a consultation. Together we can explore how therapy can support your growth and healing.
